teamLab Planets or teamLab Borderless? Tokyo tickets and tips for 2026
The difference between teamLab Planets in Toyosu and teamLab Borderless at Azabudai Hills, 2026 ticket prices, closed days, how far ahead to book, what to wear and how to get there.
teamLab, the Tokyo art collective, runs two permanent digital art museums in the city, and visitors often ask which one to choose. They are very different. Planets is a set route of large, immersive rooms, several of them in water. Borderless is a vast, dark space where artworks move between rooms and you explore at your own pace. Both are among Tokyo’s most booked attractions, and both sell timed tickets online.
Pick Planets for the barefoot, walk-through-water experience. Pick Borderless for a huge maze of rooms you can wander for hours. Book either one online before you go.
- teamLab Planets (Toyosu): adults from ¥3,800, no tickets sold on site. You walk barefoot through knee-deep water. Open until the end of 2027.
- teamLab Borderless (Azabudai Hills): adults from ¥3,400 online, ¥200 more on site if any are left. No time limit inside.
- Prices are dynamic and can be higher on busy dates. Children 3 and under are free at both.
- Closed days: Planets closes on 5 November and 3 December 2026; Borderless on 24 November 2026.

- Lockers are free. They hold a small bag (about 23 × 34 × 37 cm). Leave big luggage at your hotel.
- Online only. No tickets are sold at the venue. You can change your date and time up to three times, until two hours before your slot. Tickets are not refundable.
- Hours: 8:00 to 22:00, with last entry an hour before closing. On 31 December 2026 it closes at 20:00.
- Closed: 5 November and 3 December 2026.
- Children: under-13s must be with an adult, at a ratio of one adult to three children.
- Booking ahead: tickets for January 2027 went on sale in late October, so expect a window of roughly two to three months.
- Running until: the end of 2027.
Getting there: 3 minutes on foot from Exit 1A of Shin-Toyosu Station on the Yurikamome line, or 10 minutes from Exit 7 of Toyosu Station on the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho line. teamLab warns that the public buses from Tokyo Station are heavily congested, so take the train. The Tokyo Subway Ticket covers the Yurakucho line to Toyosu, but not the Yurikamome.
teamLab Borderless: what to know

Borderless is dark and many rooms are crowded at peak times. Wear comfortable shoes and give yourself time to get lost.

Booking tips
- Book a morning slot. Both open early (8:00 and 8:30), and early slots are often calmer than the afternoon.
- Weekends and school holidays sell out first. Book as soon as your dates are fixed.
- Use the change option rather than buying twice. Both allow three changes up to two hours before.
- Do not buy from resellers you do not recognise. teamLab names its own ticket site and Klook as the official sellers for Borderless.
- Check the closed days before you plan the rest of the day.
Getting there from your hotel
| From | To Planets (Toyosu) | To Borderless (Azabudai Hills) |
|---|---|---|
| Ginza | Tokyo Metro Yurakucho line from Ginza-itchome to Toyosu | Tokyo Metro Hibiya line from Ginza to Kamiyacho |
| Shimbashi | Yurikamome line to Shin-Toyosu | Walk to Toranomon Hills Station, then the Hibiya line one stop to Kamiyacho |
| Roppongi | Change to the Yurakucho line, or take a taxi | Hibiya line to Kamiyacho, one stop |
| Shinjuku or Shibuya | One or two changes; use a route planner | Change to the Hibiya line (Kamiyacho) or the Namboku line (Roppongi-itchome) |
The Tokyo Metro and Toei lines are covered by the Tokyo Subway Ticket; the Yurikamome is not. An IC card works on all of them. See Suica, PASMO and ICOCA.
Visiting with children
- Under-3s are free at both museums.
- Adult ratios: at Planets, one adult for every three children under 13; at Borderless, one adult for up to five children.
- Planets with small children: the water can come up to an adult’s knee, which is much deeper on a small child. Bring a change of clothes and a small towel.
- Borderless with small children: it is dark and busy in places, so agree a meeting point near the entrance in case you get separated.
What to pair them with
Planets is a short walk from the Yurikamome line, which continues to Toyosu Market (Shijo-mae Station) and on to Odaiba, so a Toyosu and Odaiba half day works well. Borderless is in Azabudai Hills, a new complex of shops and restaurants, with Roppongi Hills and Tokyo Tower nearby. Both make an easy morning before an afternoon elsewhere.
Timing your visit
Both museums open early, at 8:00 (Planets) and 8:30 (Borderless), which suits families with young children and jet-lagged visitors who are awake early anyway. Because prices are dynamic, quieter dates can be cheaper than weekends and holidays, so if your dates are flexible, compare a few days on the ticket site before you book. Check the closed days before you plan the rest of the day around a visit, and remember the special hours over New Year: Planets closes at 20:00 on 31 December 2026, and Borderless stays open until 22:00 from 26 to 30 December. There is no need to rush to Planets: it is scheduled to stay open until the end of 2027.
Common mistakes
- Turning up at Planets without a ticket. There are no on-site sales.
- Wearing tight jeans to Planets. You need to roll them above the knee.
- Taking the bus from Tokyo Station. teamLab warns it is heavily congested.
- Bringing big bags. Planets lockers are small.
- Assuming the ticket is refundable. Change the time instead.
